Licensing

Licensing, in plain language

Every template page shows its license. Here’s what the common ones mean for you. This is a summary — the license file included with each template is what legally applies.

MIT

You can

  • Use in personal and commercial projects
  • Modify, merge and redistribute
  • Use for client work

You must

  • Keep the original copyright and license notice in the source
GPL (WordPress themes)

You can

  • Use on unlimited personal and commercial sites
  • Modify the theme freely
  • Use for client work

You must

  • If you distribute a modified theme, release it under the GPL too
Commercial (premium)

You can

  • Use for one end product — your site or one client’s site
  • Modify everything
  • Use in commercial projects

You must

  • Buy one license per project
  • Don’t resell or redistribute the template files

Images, fonts and third-party assets

Demo content such as photos, illustrations and sample text may have its own license and is often included only for demonstration. Replace demo images with your own before launch unless the template’s documentation says they’re included.
