About Levain

Levain is a free bakery website template for WordPress, made for artisan bakeries, patisseries, cake shops and bakery cafés. It includes a 16-section home page, a full price list, a celebration-cake order page, allergen information, opening hours, a bakers’ journal and a contact page — warm, appetising and quick to edit.

No plugins bundled — here’s what we’d add

This template is the design: the pages, the sections and the content. It installs nothing else, so you choose the plugins and can swap any of them later without changing themes. For a bakery site these are the free plugins we would pick, and the same list appears in the dashboard under Appearance → Levain setup.

  • WooCommerce — Takes online orders and deposits for celebration cakes, gift boxes, bread subscriptions and gift cards.
  • Order Delivery Date for WooCommerce — Adds the collection or delivery date and time slot to checkout, with cut-off days — the part a bakery actually needs.
  • WPForms Lite — Custom cake enquiry forms with file upload, so customers can send the photo they are working from.

Levain is a block theme: every section is a pattern you can edit in the WordPress page editor with no code. It uses self-hosted fonts, no theme JavaScript, AA color contrast and responsive layouts, and works with Yoast, Rank Math and other SEO plugins. 3 color styles are included (Default, Rye, Berry). How to install

1. Install the theme

  1. Download levain.zip. Don’t unzip it.
  2. In WordPress, go to Appearance → Themes → Add New Theme → Upload Theme.
  3. Choose levain.zip, click Install Now, then Activate.

2. Import the demo

  1. Go to Appearance → Levain setup and click Import demo content.
  2. This creates the Home, Menu, Cakes & orders, About, Contact and Bakers’ journal pages, sample posts with photos, the menu and the front page. No plugins are installed.

3. Add the features you need

The theme bundles no plugins. These are the free ones we’d add for a bakery site — install them from Plugins → Add New Plugin:

4. Make it yours

  • Edit text and photos right on each page — just click and type.
  • Update your phone, email, address and hours in Appearance → Editor → Patterns → Header / Footer.
  • Change colors and fonts in Appearance → Editor → Styles. Try the Rye and Berry styles.
  • Add more sections from + → Patterns → Levain: Sections.
