About Portico

Portico is a free hotel website template for WordPress, built for small hotels, B&Bs, inns and guest houses. It includes a 16-section home page, room pages with rates, a dining page, grounds gallery, seasonal offers, a what’s-included list, directions and an enquiry page — calm, elegant and easy to keep up to date.

Pages included

  • Home — The full home page: hero, credentials, rooms, rates, the house, numbers, grounds gallery, dining, offers, what’s included, reviews, directions, FAQ, journal and the enquiry section.
  • Rooms — All three room types in detail, rates, what’s included, offers and FAQ.
  • Dining — Breakfast, lunch and dinner service, the kitchen garden, reviews and booking.
  • About — The story of the house, what we hold to, numbers, the grounds and reviews.
  • Contact — Enquiry details, directions, reception hours and FAQ.
  • Journal — a styled blog with three demo posts, archive and search templates.

No plugins bundled — here’s what we’d add

This template is the design: the pages, the sections and the content. It installs nothing else, so you choose the plugins and can swap any of them later without changing themes. For a hotel site these are the free plugins we would pick, and the same list appears in the dashboard under Appearance → Portico setup.

  • MotoPress Hotel Booking — Rooms, seasonal rates, an availability calendar and direct reservations — the one plugin a hotel site actually needs.
  • WP Hotelier — A lighter alternative if you want room types, availability and booking without the extras.
  • WPForms Lite — Enquiry forms for weddings, group stays and private dining, where a booking engine is the wrong shape.

Fast, accessible and SEO-friendly

Portico is a block theme: every section is a pattern you can edit in the WordPress page editor with no code. It uses self-hosted fonts, no theme JavaScript, AA color contrast and responsive layouts, and works with Yoast, Rank Math and other SEO plugins. 3 color styles are included (Default, Harbour, Claret). Looking for a hotel website template, B&B website template, guest house WordPress theme and small inn website? Install Portico, import the demo and start editing in minutes.

Live demos

Runs a real WordPress site with this theme installed, right in your browser. Nothing to install — it resets when you close it.

How to install

1. Install the theme

  1. Download portico.zip. Don’t unzip it.
  2. In WordPress, go to Appearance → Themes → Add New Theme → Upload Theme.
  3. Choose portico.zip, click Install Now, then Activate.

2. Import the demo

  1. Go to Appearance → Portico setup and click Import demo content.
  2. This creates the Home, Rooms, Dining, About, Contact and Journal pages, sample posts with photos, the menu and the front page. No plugins are installed.

3. Add the features you need

The theme bundles no plugins. These are the free ones we’d add for a hotel site — install them from Plugins → Add New Plugin:

  • MotoPress Hotel Booking — Rooms, seasonal rates, an availability calendar and direct reservations — the one plugin a hotel site actually needs.
  • WP Hotelier — A lighter alternative if you want room types, availability and booking without the extras.
  • WPForms Lite — Enquiry forms for weddings, group stays and private dining, where a booking engine is the wrong shape.

4. Make it yours

  • Edit text and photos right on each page — just click and type.
  • Update your phone, email, address and hours in Appearance → Editor → Patterns → Header / Footer.
  • Change colors and fonts in Appearance → Editor → Styles. Try the Harbour and Claret styles.
  • Add more sections from + → Patterns → Portico: Sections.

The ZIP includes INSTALL.txt with these steps.
